Down Time with Expedition Impossible

Has anyone else been watching Expedition Impossible? This is a show we just started watching, and we like it. It’s basically a game/reality show where several teams are racing through Morocco and doing a bunch of extreme challenges. While this post has nothing to do with me or Scott, I must comment on why this show is so entertaining:

1. “The Gypsies” (These guys are the team that’s in first place every week): First of all, they call themselves the gypsies. Second, while other teams are getting sick and almost dying on the hikes and challenges the show puts them through, the Gypsies are always commenting on how beautiful the terrain is or how “cool” the challenges are. Instant laughter in the Foley home every time they speak.

2. The Blind Guy and His Team: How on earth is that blind guy doing all this? I guess since he’s climbed Mount Everest, he’s pretty hardcore; but it’s still pretty incredible that he rafted down a river in his own canoe and climbed through snowy mountains faster than 90% of the people there.

3. The Cameramen/: Umm…does anyone else wonder how the camera-people can just hike right beside the contestants as they almost fall off cliffs and stumble through the challenges? Is there some sort of magic-carpet technology I’m not aware of? Also, when are the contestants interviewed during all of this? Are they forced to take interview breaks during the race? I can’t see the Gypsies going for that when there’s so much fun to be had in nature.

4. The Odd Assortment of People: There are a ton of different teams from “Football Players” to the “California Girls.” It’s fun to see how they all handle the challenges.

5. The Host: How does one become a host of a show like this? And how does this guy just appear out of nowhere when the contestants are done with the day’s race? Is there a nearby hotel he stays at or does he sleep in those flimsy tents the contestants have to endure? I have a lot of unanswered questions here. Scott pointed out that maybe the host is the fastest one of all and completes the challenges long before everyone else. Even the Gypsies. He’s probably right.

We’re excited to see what happens next. After several repeats of the teaser for next week’s episode (thank you DVR), it appears that one of the Gypsies gets injured. I think they’ll still win.
